Title: Intermittent Shoutbox refresh issues
Post by: SimianSteam on June 16, 2014, 01:59:29 PM
This just cropped up in the past couple of days, Been trying to troubleshoot it, but you know how it is with intermittent issues...

So every once in a while the shoutbox goes into an endless working state. This seems to happen only when a person submits a shout. It refreshes fine when others shout.

It does not appear to be connected to traffic. There are times when the shoutbox is being heavily used and operates fine, and others where there's only two or three people using the ShoutBox and the issue occurs.

I've tried limiting the history, pruning, enabling and disabling cache, emptying browser cache, emptying forum cache (just to try everything) and no change. It just seems to go away after a while.

Thoughts?

Update: I fixed it (temporarily, I'm sure.) by changing the refresh interval. I've done that to fix it once before, but this time I went from 4sec to 3sec, instead of vice-versa. Not sure if this will help diagnose the issue.

One important contribution (helping us here) you could make would be to test it with just the SMF default theme.
See what happens in different browsers.
