Title: Forum Button That shows up on All Templates
Post by: smoundzou on March 27, 2010, 01:39:10 PM
I don't know about everyone else but I don't code and it's very frustrating to use SP and not have the forum button show up on the nav bar on templates other than the default SMF temp.

Why can this portal not be coded so that the forum button shows up on all templates?  The other buttons seem to show up?  So i'm having a hard time understanding this.

I almost wrecked my entire forum and had to shut down for 3 days due to trying to code the forum button into a template.. After I got things straight.. I almost un-installed SP due to frustration.

I can't tell which smf version you are using because you have neglected to complete your profile info but I assume you are using smf 1 (smf 1.1.1x)...

SMF 1:
No matter what mod you install, if it requires an extra button on the nav bar you will need to edit each custom theme's index.template.php file to add a button (text or graphic).

SMF 2:
For regular text buttons, no extra edit should be necessary.
For buttons that are graphic (graphic text or icon) usually requires an edit to the /Sources/Subs.php file and you must create the graphic icon/text file for it.

No matter which mod you install that requires a button on the nav bar, the above applies.

BTW - You could have posted in this forum for assistance in adding your forum button... Someone would have done the edit for you (attach file and someone edits), gave you instructions or provided a link to some instructions.

I am assuming that you are using SMF 1.1.x.

The answer is no. That is no possible, as SMF 1.1.x is not designed to make that possible. SimplePortal would have to include different edits for every single SMF 1.1.x theme, which is not going to happen. There is a very detailed General Custom Theme Tutorial (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=148.0) that helps you to add the 'Forum' button to SMF 1.1.x.
