Board within a Block - Guestbook
« on: December 15, 2009, 09:35:52 AM »
I've tried searching for this with no luck.

I want to have a single board displayed within a Bottom block to use as a Guestbook.

As our forum is private, members only, I want to give visitors the ability to post comments in a block on the portal page. I guess I could use a shout box but that's difficult to moderate. Yes of course visitors could go into the forum and I can set up a Guest Only Board there but I'd really like it to be on the Portal page, hence the block Idea.

Is it possible?

With SimplePortal, everything is possible. :P :D

First, you have a guestbook?
If you have guestbook, I think us sufficient a HTML FORM.
my modsI don't reply support PMs. Please use support forums.

You could setup a simple guestbook with a Custom PHP block. That would be the easiest way of making a guestbook.

Integrating with the SMF board system would be harder.

Not sure why this is in the English Support board though, moving to the Custom Coding board.

Ahh yes a Guestbook I could use yet another piece of code to add a guestbook but my thought was to use a Guest Access Only BOARD from SMF as the guestbook with all the facilities that comes with it. I currently have a Log-In problems board on the forum that only guests can see/use and this brings all the benefits of the Anti-Spam features that I have in SMF. So to place a single board within a block on the portal page was my idea. Perhaps putting it in an iFrame? but I just don't know how to go about it.

Yes, please move to wherever you feel this topic is more appropriate, it was a support "type" question to start with.

Well I've utilised a free Guestbook system from http://www.phpjunkyard.com/ in a custom block on the front page and it seems to be working OK.

So as a Mod request, feel free to drop it but I'd be interested to know if it were ever possible to place a board within a block, it could have some interesting uses.

Well, it shouldn't be too hard to list topics from a board in a block. It really depends on how you want to do it.

Displaying the latest x topics from a single board is already possible with a Recent topics block.

If you want to display just the titles of each topic, but still have a 'pages index' so that you could view all of the topics in that board, then that shouldn't be too difficult.
