Title: Blogs?
Post by: David on September 06, 2009, 04:32:19 AM
How about creating blog capabilities and building it into a future release of SP?

Charles Hill has decided to pull support for his Blog Community mod and also recenly announced the end of his ZCommunity mod in it's present form. He's building a CMS with ZComunity built into it. So if we want ZCommunity (which was prolly the best out there) then we have to go with his CMS and bridge it to our forums...which, I am thinking will probably create compatibility issues with Simple Portal.

So, I'm thinking that if you incorporated a BLOG system within Simple Portal....and if members could just initiate it as an optional feature....that it would go over EXTREMELY well...and now would be great time to consider it, since support is GONE for the best of the Blog mods that were once out there.

If this is a "way out there" request...my apologies.  I just figured if anyone could do it, you guys could.  There's a definate need for it in the SMF community now, that wasnt there 6 months ago.

Thanks for listening,

David

We are currently looking at improving the SimplePortal Articles system. The main idea was to allow for articles to be separate from the forum posting, fairly similar to pages (I believe), but with a permissions system that give admin the choice as to who can create them. They would/could have the ability for other users to post comments.

I can't say that I have looked too much into blogs, what do you believe would be the main differences between the sort of system I have described above, and the blog system that you are interested in?

In some ways, they sound like a similar feature under different names.

One of the major goals of the SimplePortal is to become more modular, which may mean that features like blogs could be coded by the team, but not included in the main package. Installation of them would be made easy by SimplePortal's structure though (and a module manager).
