I was looking for something else when I came across this unanswered question, so for the benefit of anyone else who finds it and needs to know the answer:

Go to SIMPLEPORTAL > CONFIGURATION > BLOCK SETTINGS there you can change the width and visibility (Enable) of each of the side columns which in effect changes the width of the centre (Top and Bottom) block too.

Actually you can't set width for top or bottom blocks, it's possible only for left/right panel.

btw, you know that this topic is almost 1 year old :)

Both correct?

I guess it is true that you can fix the size of the center top and bottom blocks if the template width is fixed by adjusting the side column widths.

But not the same as fixing the center width in pixels say on a fluid width template with the extra space taken up by the side columns - cant do that I think. Would look strange anyway.

But the new header and footer blocks I suppose can be set to maximum=template width  :D
