in the next version of simpleportal, if it contains chat sound option which notifies us when a message has been sent, it would be really great :nervous-happy: , and it would be really appreciated.thank u so much for all ur labor

There is already a plug in available which does this by Underdog.

We want to keep the default shoutbox simple. So we aren't planning to add this. However, as Brack1 said, there should be a plugin for this around here.

yeah as its name, it is simple and lovely, but there are some problems with plug-in.and maybe you could add a sound option which can be used by users if required :)

I agree 100% that the sound functionality should NOT be part of the default SP package. One good reason is the annoyance when the browser loads and tries to auto-download that sound file. Most people have their download managers set to copy URL from memory or when pages containing mp3s, wavs, avi, mp4, etc are loaded. I used to have Nibogo's shoutbox which incorporates a sound feature and my members have complained so much about it and i have myself had so much trouble whenever visiting the main index forum page, that i had uninstall it, until i decided to give SP a try and that was it! The best decision that i've ever made for my SMF community! :D
