Title: Confused about integration and standalone
Post by: boo2 on August 29, 2012, 02:47:25 PM
I installed smf in a directory called forums.
How do I get the whole thing including the portal to open from my main home directory, allowing it to stay in the forum directory?

I read the portal-stadalone.php thingy in the forum directory but that didn't help me understand it.

I just want my sites home page to open either the portal or the forums even though the forums were not installed in the home directory but in a folder called forums. hope that wasn't confusing.

Welcome to Simple Portal!

There are several modes
* Front Page mode -- Simple Portal gives your forum a new front page at its old location. Once you install/turn on Simple Portal, you go to the forum URL, and see the portal instead, plus a "forum" button to take you to the forum.
* Integration mode -- There is no Portal Page on the forum.  You just have the blocks to use in your forum.
* Standalone Mode -- You already have the forum in some part of your website (www.yoursite.net/forum/index.php, for example), and you want a "home page" somewhere else in the same domain (www.yoursite.net/index.php, for example). That's when you want a standalone portal page.

I decided I can't live with out the portal where I need it, so I just moved everything from forum directory to home directory. The other way is just too confusing.

Thanks for your help anyway, Angelina.
