Title: Avatar display.. alt value for image
Post by: Chen Zhen on September 10, 2012, 04:41:39 PM
When using various block types such as staff, recent posts, news, etc. :

These blocks already display the user name & also an avatar. If there is no avatar image to display why not make the alt value false (alt = '') or have a small default avatar image since the user name appears twice with this scenario. Secondly when the alt displays the name it shows beyond the edge of the block & does not look good at all.

I noticed this because I neglected to transfer an avatar directory but the same scenario will occur for users who opt no avatar.  I see no point in displaying a name twice.

On my sites, there is no Name instead of avatar.
If no avatar, then the place is just empty.

Yeah, it won't display anything, even the img tag, if the user doesn't have an avatar set. In your it's probably because the avatar is set for the user but it cannot be found. It has different consequences depending on the browser. I think Chrome and Firefox uses alt text but Internet Explorer used to fail badly in such a case.
