Title: Problem Uninstalling 2.3.5
Post by: br360 on December 08, 2013, 09:55:50 PM
I posted this on the support thread for smf, but I figured I would have a better chance for help here, so here goes-

About a year ago, I installed the 2.3.5 version. Everything worked as it should and installed fine. At that time though I really just installed it to check it out, so I then uninstalled it. No idea exactly what I did, but I messed up the uninstall something awful.

The files were deleted from a couple of the source code files, but remained in most of them. In the database, I also have 5 of the sp tables still in database (sp_articles, sp_blocks,  sp_categories,    sp_functions, sp_parameters)-all empty of course.

I recently tried a couple of times to manually uninstall it, and although it all goes smoothly- once I get to subs.php, I am having nothing but problems trying to uninstall the subs.php code without getting parse errors- usually when I try to test ban a member.

Now I have had no problem uninstalling this manually on my test sites, but since I have added a few other mods on my main site since then, the mod parse instructions aren't exactly correct; and somehow it isn't working.

So my questions are; if I decide not to use the mod, is it possible to uninstall it from the rest of the files, and drop the tables, while still keeping all of the code intact in subs.php? Will it cause any problems down the line?

Also, if I do want to use the mod (which I really do) is there any way to remove the code from all the other files, drop the tables, and still be able to re-install sp without having it install anything in subs (where all the code does appear to be there)?

Hello and welcome to SimplePortal!

I think the best we can do would be to install the mod completely and then you can either leave it uninstalled or re-install it again if you want.

If you can attach all the files that were edited by the SimplePortal, I can do the removal of the code for you.

Wow, thank you. That is incredibly nice of you. I will be more than happy to pay you to do this (or make a payment in support of SP)as well as I'm sure it is time consuming.) Just let me know what you think is fair.

Also, I can only upload 5 attachments at a time, so forgive the 6 posts. ;)

Part 2 (pretty sure everything from the Querystring is already removed)

Part 4

I think that is it. I honestly can't thank you enough for the offer, and I really do want to pay you for your time, so please let me know what you think is fair.

Here are the files you've attached with SimplePortal code completely removed. So there shouldn't be any code related to SimplePortal at all.

You can either use your forum without SimplePortal or make a fresh SimplePortal install.

And thank you for your kindness too! If you would like to contribute, you could consider donating to the project:

br360,

I must say, I am very impressed with your attitude, and kindness, both here and at SMF site.
Please, keep up the greatness. :)

Seriously [SiNaN] thanks again for the help, and thanks BK for the kind words. I just went ahead and paid for the 50 dollar donator program. (well worth it, and if I mess it up again at least someone will install it for me this time. ;) )

I am going to upload the new files to a test site to make sure all is good, then upload it to my main site. I'll let you know how everything went in the next day or two.

This may be an incredibly dumb question, but when uninstalling or editing a file, is there a right way to do this; or a particular order it should be uninstalled?

I ask because I uploaded and overwrote just the index.php file first, then went to my site to see if there was any issues. I got a fatal error when going into the admin panel (I restored the index.php so I forgot exactly the error- but if I remember correctly, it had something to do with manage.permissions)

I'm guessing I got that error because I hadn't finished uploading all the new edited files, and once I completely remove all code for SP, that error will go away?

Well I guess my question was that dumb as nobody responded. ;)  It does in fact appear that until you remove all the SP code edits in all of the listed files, you will get errors. I guess that was obvious to everyone but me. lol

Anyway, I waited until my site wasn't very active and just overwrote all the files that [SiNaN] edited for me. I just went through the site, admin functions, moderator functions, etc...and it looks like everything is good. I also went into the package manager to install SP, and I saw a "test successful" on every file, so it should install cleanly.

Once again [SiNaN], I can't thank you enough for all of your help. Very much appreciated.

Edit- I guess my next question is this; I still have the 5 SP tables in my database. (sp_articles, sp_blocks,  sp_categories,    sp_functions, sp_parameters)

If I want to install SP again, should I drop those empty tables first, or can I just go ahead with the reinstall, and the new tables will overwrite them?

Go ahead and re-install.
The database info just means that the blocks and pages and settings you had, should be still there when you re-install.

As for the previous post, I'm not fully awake enough to tackle that one.... LOL :)

br360, do you require further assistance with this one?

Nope, your help is greatly appreciated. Marking this as solved.

Thanks again.
