If getting internal server error, then that means there is a server issue that you need to to talk to your host about.

i talked to my host(ipages) too... they told me to talk to sp cause it was a script error. but when i loaded the sp 2.3.6 everything tested fine but when i clicked the proceed button. error show something about file permissions. but after i clicked proceed i got internal server error 500.

I'd suggest you to change host, your host is kinda lying. Look at the error itself "Internal server error", what does it suggest?

Many of the cheaper hosts seem to have problems with file permissions.  Sometimes they are set very strict and packages  are not able to install.
I had trouble with ipage (will not go back there), Also on Hostgator where simplescripts wouldn’t even work automatically installing suggested software packages like SMF. They did fix it for my package but maybe they work on a case by case basis when people complain - seem lazy not testing what they promote.

I never had problems on Bluehost or Westhost (so far the best).

There is documentation you can read to help you check your file permissions. You can also try asking your webhosting support.

Hello and welcome to SimplePortal!

Here is a really nice document that Angelina prepared that covers frequent cases:

http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems

It also includes information on how you can install the mod manually as the last resort.

In this particular case I would ask them about CHOWN permissions seeing that error. And maybe check your own CHMOD permissions first to see if they are not too low.

Messiah80, was the linked document of any use in your case? Do you require further assistance with your issue?
