Title: Noob preinstall question - custom directoy structure
Post by: khigh on December 14, 2014, 03:06:25 PM
Hi all,

I got the package downloaded, but I can't bring myself to press the button just yet because I'm not clear on how to get it to do what I want, if I even can.

I have a well-established forum - about a year and a half old. "164536 Posts in 9261 Topics by 510 Members"

when I first set it up, I knew I'd want content on  the site besides a forum, so I put a placeholder page at website.com and put the forum off that in a /forum directory, so the forum home page is at website.com/forum/index.php

What I'd LIKE to do is keep the forum  right where it is and have the portal answer at website.com

Can I specify that during a standard install from the package? do I need to modify some files or do a manual install? Can I do it at all?

Thanks for looking.

You can set the portal / front page to display at your domain, and keep your forum in /forum.

Simple Portal Configuration:

Portal Mode: Front Page, Integration, Standalone

Standalone: This will enable the portal to be displayed at a different url, away from the forum. The portal page appears in the url defined for the "Standalone URL" option. For details, check the PortalStandalone.php file found inside the forum root.

Then set the URL for Simple Portal front page.

Standalone URL:

Full URL to the standalone file.
Example: http://myforum.com/portal.php

You will have to move the  PortalStandalone.php file to where you want the front page and rename it what you want - same as standalone url name (portal.php, index.php etc).

OK Cool - thanks so much - I understand now.

I just read the post and the link and I feel like I have a grasp on it now. Looking forward to putting it together.

Thanks again!

It is not related to the OP but if you are really using 2.0.5 I *highly* recommend you to update to 2.0.9 as there are even some security bugfixes in the latest patches.
Regards.
