Title: SP Arcade block not displaying games correctly
Post by: hoozah on September 13, 2015, 01:58:19 AM
Hello all -

I did a quick search but did not find any solutions. Recently implemented the latest e-arcade for SMF but having some issues with the arcade pics not displaying properly when using the SP Arcade block.

If you can point me in the right direction, I'll be happy to find my way through! Thanks again.

hoozah,

The arcade block is written for SMF Arcade whereas E-Arcade may have DB changes that are not compatible.
You have 3 options: Use SMF Arcade instead (located at my website), rewrite the block code (directly or create a custom PHP block) or ask the developer of E-Arcade to write a custom PHP block for you.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply Chen. I visited your site and it looks very nice.

I will convert to the SMF arcade this week. What are the advantages or disadvantages among the two?

hoozah,

Originally E-Arcade was ported from SMF Arcade many years ago but the author stopped development of that project.
Within the last year or so vbgamer took over that project although it seems the current development of it has stalled for the moment.
If you are using E-Arcade 3.0 (vbgamer's version) then I can not be sure what changes or additions he did to give you an accurate comparison as I have not tested it as of yet.

For the moment I will assume the only major noticeable difference will be the display template.
SMF Arcade 2.5 RC3 offers 3 different displays although I had planned to add E-Arcade's template into it and possibly revamp Arcade World's template as well. You also have the option of using blocks written for SMF Arcade to display on your forum or the Arcade page itself. These are available on my website.

Regards.

Thanks again for your response Chen. However.....

I uninstalled and deleted the e-arcade and attempted to install the SMF arcade. There were no errors on the pre-installation so I proceeded to install it. The screen suddenly popped up with a internal server error so I had my host look into it. Host responded back and said the forum permission was changed to 777 instead of 755 most likely caused by the arcade mod. They reverted it back to 755 and voila! Site back up again.

I tried installing SMF arcade again and no conflicts or errors were detected. Installed mod through package manager and received internal error again. My host gave me instructions on how to revert back to 755 permission and the site is back up and running again.

Is this a common error for the SMF arcade on installation?

hoozah,

It's been quite some time since I worked on that mod to remember without looking at it to be honest.
It could be my edits to it, the original author's coding or perhaps both.
Perhaps most hosts allow the 0777 permission setting from a Perl command line which is why it was never reported to me until now.
I will take a look, make the appropriate edits & provide an update shortly.

Thank you for the report.

Regards.
