Title: Displaying Topic/Article on frontpage/portalpage

hello,
I have 2 questions:
1). How can I display not first post of a topic to frontpage as article? I'd like to display second, or fifth (which I choose).
2). How can I organize a tree-view of all my articles (may be paged list)?
Example:
- ArticleCategory1
   --Article1
   --Article2
- ArticleCategory2
   --Article1
   .......

As far as I know this cannot be done with standard articles. You would need  custom coding or a custom block maybe.

Also posting this in general discussion is not the best place. I will move it to a more suitable board.
