Title: new simple portal install with SMF 2.0 RC1
Post by: dodant on February 07, 2009, 01:58:27 PM
Hi, I am getting ready to try to install simple portal with a test install of SMF 2.0 RC1.

I am a complete newbie!

I found the installation instructions on the simple machines website.

Do I need to make the edits manually to the files listed?
For example, the first one is edits to index.php?

And, do I do this before or after installing simple portal?

and one last question...  Is there an installation procedure listed anywhere?

thanks

Just use the SMF's package manager, upload the zipped file containing Simple Portal install kit, after upload hit "apply mod" and basically thats it. After SP is installed in admin area of SMF a new tab will appear, there you can set up nice and easy you newly installed SP.

package uploaded...

When I try to apply the package, it gives an error...  I listed it below.

Suggestions?

!!Error in Package Installation

16.     Execute Modification     ./Themes/default/css/dropmenu.css     Test failed
   1.    Replace    ./Themes/default css/dropmenu.css    Test failed

Ignore that error, you can continue with install.

I am just getting back to this...
And I apologize - I am brand new at SMF and Simple Portal so my questions are probably very basic.  I am reading everything I can get my hands on to come up to speed.

If I proceed as you suggest, I get a through an FTP dialog and then get a message

Quote
An Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

I have checked every file in the packages directory and all are set to 777 as is the packages folder.

suggestions?

This is a fairly common error that can occur with the SMF package manager. Try creating a directory called 'temp' within your 'packages' folder and chmoding it to 0777.

Success!
Finally did a chmod on packages folder and recursively all files and folders inside.

thanks for the help.

Ah :-) I had the same problem. Creating the temp folder and chmoding it 777 solved it, thanks. :-)
