Title: Halp?!
Post by: Cru3lty on August 29, 2008, 04:32:51 PM
Let me preface this by saying I have absolutely no clue what I am doing, I took one high school level HTML class 6 years ago and decided that now is a good time to build a webpage for my guild.

Here is the goal...http://www.martyrdomguild.com, now they use tinyportal but I assume I can do all of that with simpleportal as well. Besides I like to support the little guy  :)

Here is what I have http://brokenmethod.ulmb.com. I tried following the instructions on simplemachines.org but I cannot get this to install. The instructions ask for an admin file that wasn't included in the .zip of the simpleportal i downloaded.

I have a vent server and would absolutely love it if someone would hop on with me and help me get this going.

SMF 1.1.5 and SP 2.0.4 I believe.

    * Which version of SMF you're using.

1.1.5

    * Which version of SimplePortal you're using.

2.0.4

    * A link to your forum. (Or screenshots, either or).

www.martyrdomguild.com (What I am trying to create)
brokenmethod.ulmb.com (What I currently have)

    * Any errors from your error log that may be related (please remove paths and IP addresses as this could give out personal information not needed on a public forum.)

No errors because I haven't been able to install simpleportal into SMF.

    * A detailed description of the problem. (VERY IMPORTANT).

SMF says I need to do the following:
File Operations
Move the included file "SPortal.php" to "./Sources".
Move the included file "SPortalAdmin.php" to "./Sources".
Move the included file "Subs-SPortal.php" to "./Sources".
Move the included file "SPortal.template.php" to "./Themes/default".
Move the included file "SPortalAdmin.template.php" to "./Themes/default".
Move the included file "SPortalArticle.template.php" to "./Themes/default".
Move the included file "SPortal.english.php" to "./Themes/default/languages".
Move the included file "SPortal.english-utf8.php" to "./Themes/default/languages".
Move the included file "arrow.gif" to "./Themes/default/images".
Move the included file "dot.gif" to "./Themes/default/images".

However I see no "SPortalAdmin.php" in the zip file for Simple Portal.

Again since I am brand new to this whole thing I don't really know where to go from here.

One possible method of installing the SP modification is to use SMF's Package Manager.

Admin > Packages > Browse.

Upload the compressed package found on SM.org of the mod and upload it, then click [apply]. This will auto-install all the files and code for you.

This is the preferred method of installing the system as it edits a lot of SMF files and would take quite some time installing by hand.
