Title: manual uninstall ?
Post by: Trycester on June 14, 2009, 08:40:41 AM
hello !

first of all I have to say that I'm a very happy user of SimplePortal, everything works like it should.

Now I'd like to update the old version (2.0.4) which is running at our forum to the latest one and I've seen that in order to install the most recent release of SimplePortal, I need to uninstall the old one...problem: I can't see it in the "Installed Packages" in the Admin area (see attachment). It is installed (as you can see, there's a "SimplePortal" entry in the menu and we're heavily using it) but there's no option to uninstall it.

question: Is there a way to manually uninstall it ? Or would it be possible to just re-install the exact same version (2.0.4) we have running at the moment, hoping the option to uninstall would appear afterwards ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks in advance,
Trycester...

You should be able to make SMF think its installed with the steps below:
1) Upload the SimplePortal2.0.4.zip file from our downloads area, into your 'packages directory' (if it isn't already there).
You can skip step 2 if step 1 resolves your issue.
2) Download/edit your 'packages/installed.list' file. Add the line of code to a new line at the end of the file. Update/save the file.
Code: [Select]
SimplePortal|^|SimplePortal2.0.4.zip|^|[SiNaN]:SimplePortal|^|2.0.4
Then SimplePortal should appear in your packages list, so you can uninstall it. I'm not sure why it wouldn't be there, the package may have accidentally been deleted or something...

...another quick question:

if I hit "unistall", the test fails with these files:
./Sources/Display.php
./Sources/Load.php
./Sources/Subs.php
./Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php

now ( I hope I understand this correctly) basically what should happen is that SimplePortal undoes ths changes it did when I unstalled it (the changes which are listed in the install.xml file in the package-zip) ?
I took a look at these 4 files and it Portal should be able to undo them because they haven't been altered at all...yet somehow it doesn't.

Would it be ok for me do download these 4 files and undo the changes SP2.0.4 is supposed to do by hand and then upload them again if the uninstall does not work ?

Yes, manually uninstalling SimplePortal for those files/edits should work fine. If you have any issues then you can attach those files and I can Have a look at them. :)
