Title: Portal placement
Post by: katbloke on June 21, 2009, 06:37:33 AM
I currently have my forum installed in my publichtml/forum folder and the portal via smf package is installed there, what id like to do is have the portal installed in main public html ie making it an index page then have it point to the the forum.

Is it possible to do this.

url is

http://www.clio-williams.co.uk

forum location is

http://www.clio-williams.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=forum

Thanks.

Upload attached file to your web site root. (You can rename it if you want) Then set Admin > SimplePortal > Configuration > General Settings > Portal Mode option to Standalone and Standalone URL setting as http://www.clio-williams.co.uk/portal.php

Note that you need to change portal.php in the Standalone URL setting if you rename the file. Like if you rename the file to index.php then Standalone URL should be http://www.clio-williams.co.uk/index.php

Thats brilliant thankyou, the other issue that throws up is the home button on the forum needs its action chaning to point to the portal in its new position, is that easy to do?

Did you set the Admin > SimplePortal > Configuration > General Settings > Standalone URL option as I noted above? What it is set to now?

yep all portal settings are as you stated, the portal redirect is perfect, what id like to do now is have the forums home button and the logo when clicked to go back to www.clio-williams.co.uk ie the portal, rather than www.clio-williams.co.uk/forum/index.php

Mind telling me how did you set Standalone URL? What is its value now?

http://www.clio-williams.co.uk/index.php

if i set in admin the portal to be front page and also have it as standalone url i get the desired effect, is this the correct way to do it as i now have index.php in standalone and in the forum folder. Both are the portal pages

"Portal Mode" should be set as "Standalone". Would you attach the index.template.php file of your theme?

How do I have my portal link to my forum which is located at http://www.asianami.com/forum2/index.php using the portal.php file as I don't know which address path I need to use. Do I need to use the full path as used when accessing the FTP account or do I need a shorter one?

I've done as you've said and it still doesn't seem to work...

Here's what I've typed in:

Code: [Select]
// Should be the full path!
$forum_dir = dirname(__FILE__) . '/home/leikaman/public_html/forum2/Themes/AsiaNami/portal.php';

Can you tell me please where I've gone wrong?

Apologies for bumping this thread up but I'm still having difficulties setting up the link to the portal in the portal.php file.
