Title: 2.2.2 dropdown menu?
Post by: allison on June 28, 2009, 02:57:23 PM
Guys
I´ve just run out of talent here. I´ve made several changes to silentwave theme (subs.php menu etc) But i simply just can´t get the dropdown menu to work.

I´ve added several buttons, such as Rules, entries, schedule. What i´ve tried was adding a dropdown to media. With 2 choices:
Season 1 which leads to index.php?action=page;sa=media1
and Season 2 to: index.php?action=page;sa=media2
Any idea if that can be done?

These are the mods i´m running on my test forum:
1. jQLightbox 0.5
2. SimplePortal 2.2.2
3. eNinja - Custom Pages 1.0.12
4. PM to New Members 1.0

On the main forum which is where this will be running (when its complete) i´ve got these mods:
1. jQLightbox 0.5
2. SimplePortal 2.2.2
3. eNinja - Custom Pages 1.0.12
4. SMF 1.0.17 / 1.1.9 / 2.0 RC1 Update 1.0
5. AjaxChat Integration 3.0
6. Custom Form Mod 1.4
7. PM to New Members 1.0
8. Display Name On Registration 1.4

I´ve attached the subs and the index.template.php

ohh yeah, and a small issue is the:
Rules, Entries, Schedule, standings, media and liveview are not bold when they are selected, but the "real" buttons are. Cant really find the issue with this one, allthough its a minor problem.

Hi,
yes it can all be done.

But what you are doing isn't the way I'd go about it. I've just been questioning the dropdown menu myself. I wasn't so keen once I realised that the subs file would be touched. I prefer to tamper with as few files as pos because of updates.

It can all be done in your theme's index.template.php and css. Even the main menu can be added.

http://ago.tanfa.co.uk/css/examples/menu/tutorial-h.html#menref

That link is to a great turorial I found on Google only yesterday, after I put a reply in on dropdown menus on the SMF Forum.

If you copy the finished html script in the tutorial and place it in the body before your header and before any other scripts that might be there, then copy the finished CSS  styles into the end of your themes css file, you can quickly grasp exactly what is going on.

I hope that's of help to you.

Have you had any success with this issue allison?

There is a topic about implementing a Drop Down Menu for all themes on SM.org (see below), you may want to try asking in that topic.
