I have "Users online today" installed but when I installed SP2.3 it doesn't work any more even when I uninstall and reinstall (Users online today"
Any ideas?

Hmmm... We moved to that to block options but I'm not sure if it was 2.3 or before. Edit your Who's Online block and enable Users Online Today option.
