Title: Custom Error page for Pages
Post by: siath on September 07, 2009, 03:07:26 PM
I dunno really how to say this.

The ability for me to create custom error page and then set a default in the SP config. Then also have the ability to make pages display custom pages if I want.

That way it doesn't give an error and can same something like, you can not access this page or this page is for subscription only.

Like SP checks their access level and if not high enough redirects them to the error page instead.

Hope I got that across...

Interesting suggestion, you basically want another way to handle error messages, by showing a specific page, right?

Not sure about adding this to the SimplePortal core, but we'll look at it.

Yeah, would be nice for us to be able to let someone trying to see a page (or other things in the portal?) that there is something there but they can't view it. Doesn't need to be for the whole forum, personally I'm really just intrested in pages.

Instead of seeing:

An Error Has Occurred!
The page you requested cannot be found.

I would like to be able to have them redirected to a page that I set up that says something like. You do not have access to this page, or to see this page you must join this group or subscribe to this group.

Just away to mark a page in the page listing as an error page, like a check box. Then have it show up in a drop down menu for pages if you want to set one for that page.

And then in the SP config just have the ability to set a default page for errors or something.

If you are still interested in this functionality, then please make a topic in the Custom Coding board. For the moment at least, this isn't going to be added to the SimplePortal core package, primarily because it doesn't seem to be a particularly common request. Its also easy to make a custom edit that achieves this.
