Title: Docs for advanced blocks management
Post by: erlend_sh on November 13, 2009, 06:38:41 PM
I would love to see a tutorial of sorts for more advanced blocks management, 'Custom Display Options' in particular. I've searched around and come by a lot of threads on that subject in your support forum. Usually the thread is solved by providing a syntax example and all is good.

For instance my problem right now is that I want to display a particular block for one particular user only. I've tried multiple combinations but can't seem to figure it out. Some straight forward example of this feature's use would make a huge difference to me.

That is a permissions issue. I believe that there is already a extremely clear distinction between permissions and display options.

Permissions decide who the block is displayed to.
Display options decide where the block is displayed.

You want to alter the permissions for the block to show it to a certain user, not the display options. The easiest way to arceive what you want, would be to create a new membergroup, give the user that membergroup (maybe as an additional membergroup) then setup the blocks permissions so that only that membergroup can see the particular block.

In terms of documentation, it is on the list of things to do, and the SimplePortal team is working towards public documentation.
