Title: The "New" button doesn't disappear
Post by: Pentaxian on December 07, 2009, 05:04:55 AM
I noticed that on this forum the "New" button doesn't disappear after reading a topic. Weird.

Well, I just read this topic and it doesn't appear as 'new' to me anymore.

Chance it could be your browser, or how it caches?

No, I'll have to rephrase. Contrary to the SMF site the "New" button doesn't disappear when you use the page back arrow of your browser (Safari here). My own forum works like here but that is still in 1.1.11. I assumed that the behavior in 2.0RC2 would be like in the SMF site.

That is not really a bug or something that we can easily change (although it could be changeable using javascript).

If you want to see an updated page, then you have to actually reload the page, pressing the 'Back' button just shows you the last page, exactly how it was when you viewed it last...

If that were true then it wouldn't work like that on the SMF site, wouldn't it?

Ah, there is an option on SMF install that allows users to go back to cached pages or not.

It just so happens this forum doesn't allow it-- which is why the new icons appear when you go back.

This saves a rather large amount of bandwidth, which is why it is enabled here and not on SMF, I guess.

Correct, we do have that setting enabled. Which explains the behavior on our site.
