Be careful using Facebook to "market" your own site!!
It's very simple!
Giving your site a Facebook presense swells Facebook's numbers, from out of your membership ranks. Your site membership will increase suddenly but briefly from simple reciprocation, and then stop.
So you gain numbers. A few.
But then your PARTICIPATION at your site will suffer significantly - your members are now having a blast at Facebook sending invitations all over the place, building their profiles, playlists, albums and all that endless fun stuff. Their socialization will continue there. Facebook is a huge dilution.
I have experienced this in stark, obvious reality - twice.
I'm not here to rant.
If you think I'm wrong - I WANT to be wrong about this. But I'm afraid what I've seen with my own eyes can't be debated away.
Thanks for your input!
I'm not an angry guy - this post is not "yelling". ;)

Well, I guess it depends on what kind of site you are running. If you are running a social networking website, then linking it to facebook might not be a good idea, but for a website like SimplePortal.net or any forum that is not based on social networking, I think facebook can be an decent method of advertising.

I absolutely agree with you Nathaniel. It is typically used now, they link there forum or social networking site for the purpose of advertising. It is a good way to drive your website globally.
I absolutely agree with you Nathaniel. Many people nowadays use facebook and other social network as a ode of advertisement to their products and services. It should be avoided then or they will just look at other social sites which are capable of posting some ads.
