As no one like PM's and I am not sure where to put this as it covers two issues mentioned here http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=3858.msg24871;topicseen#new and here http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=3817.msg24634#msg24634 and is packaged up. I'll put it here. Feel free to stick it wherever you like.
I do not recommend using this until it has been looked over by the the Portal Crew and approved.
Here's a fix for the behavior of the scrollbar when the shoutbox is in reverse mode, It makes the bar start at the bottom when a page is loaded and stay there as new shouts are added. This is all packaged up and ready to go.
This also adds an alert sound whenever a new shout is made.
Tested on SMF 2.0 RC2

Using both Fire Fox and IE
A working example can be found here. Try it out, use it, don't worry about spamming anything short of commercial advertising, porn or an obscenity laced cuss-fest is to trivial to worry about. Anything else is fine.

The answer would be...Maybe. I have nothing to do with Simple Portal and posted this in order to share my solution with others. The Portal gods have not rendered their judgment regarding this humble offering. If you have a virgin willing to be sacrificed that may speed up the process though.

Yes that package will install through the package manager.
I have a few PHP and Html Blocks on there. Feel free to drop by The Site and I can send you info on the scripts and places. :nervous-happy:

haven't made it over to your site yet but i will. Anyways, when testing in IE8, the sound doesn't play. Firefox and Iron - yes. IE8 no. Does it work for you?

Yes it does, the sound only plays for the recipient (I'm sure you know this but just in case...)
I'll be in and out today until evening Curlin but I'll save you a doughnut for when you get there :)

Not sure what you meant by your first statement as when i enter a shout, it makes the sound but not in IE8. Also, when i first went to your site to check this mod, i could hear the sound(firefox) even though i didn't enter anything in shoutbox. It was from other entering shouts.

lol yes it only plays a sound when a shout enters not when one is sent I will test again with IE8 this after noon.

Hey There
I just realized that the warning text (colored bar) is at the top and disappears now using this mod after so many shouts. Is there a way to move the warning bar to the bottom just above where you enter the shouts?

i have a ? i have my shoutbox to auto refresh very few seconds otherwise shouts do not show untill you type but the sound goes nuts just keeps blinging after i type over and over until i refresh the page
i would like sound but seems it will not work when you have the box set to auto refresh every fee seconds

has anyone been able to get this working with 2.3.3?
I tried but my coding skills are at 0.001 so I failed
obviously we don't need the reverse part of this anymore, but I would (and my members) really really really like to get the sound back. It was working great on 2.3.1
if anyone can help me out or even knows another way to get a sound notification on new shouts I would really appreciate it.
