Title: Article Summaries
Post by: AngelinaBelle on February 25, 2010, 11:54:43 AM
Any forum posting can be promoted to a SimplePortal article.
Then, when the articles are displayed on the portal page, their contents are truncated to a certain number of characters. In many cases, an author-supplied summary would work better.

Does anyone else think the same way? Should this be a feature request or a mod request?

Article Addition At the time the user clicks the "Add as Article" button, or uses the article admin tool to add an article, an article summary is requested. Forcing the user to add a summary could be optional.

Article Display On the portal page, where a truncated message body is now displayed, if article summary is not blank, display it, else if article summary is blank, display truncated message body.

Article Deletion When a message is removed from the articles list, the article summary is disposed of in the same way as the rest of the article data. This is potentially a problem for inexperienced users and administrators who accidentally remove an article that they immediately want back, only the summary has disappeared.
