Title: Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Post by: 130860 on May 05, 2010, 10:47:22 PM
well many people see the cinco de mayo as a day to celebrate Mexican heritage and pride and that's good :D  however, what Cinco de Mayo really stand for is the unlikely victory of the Mexican army over the French  on May 5, 1862, at that time, the invincible French army was defeating by an amateur army with the valuable help of Zacapoaxtla indigenous a tribe who fought valiantly against the best army of the world at that time.

it is worth to mention that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day.

anyway, this is one of my favorite holidays, the other one is dia de muertos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dia_de_Muertos),  but that's until November :P

PD wikipedia is wrong, dia de muertos is not a latin american holiday, it is just a mexican one. a relly beutiful one, but I will explain it when we get there.

¡Felíz cinco de Mayo! :D
