Title: greetings
Post by: emily on June 13, 2010, 12:22:06 AM
i have used IPB and phpBB so far and i'm very curious about simple portal (love the simplicity of its layout) so was wondering, apart from its good looks, which other features make ppl decide to go for it and not phpBB for example, as another open source software? thanks

To use simple portal you  would first require a SMF forum.

You might want to go over to SimpleMachines.org (http://simplemachines.org/) and read a bit about SMF and its features.

SimplePortal is a mod for SMF, that provides the following general functionality:
- A new frontpage for displaying blocks/articles.
- Blocks that can be put anywhere on your SMF forum, and elsewhere with a little more effort. (like 'recent posts', 'shoutbox' or 'user info')
- Custom pages which are allow you to add PHP/HTML/BBC content to your forum (on new pages).
- Articles, that allow you to publish certain topics to be viewed on the portal page (forum independent articles will be coming in SP 2.4).
- A simple shoutbox which can be put into a block.

Everyone here will say no.

There are other portals but as mentioned before the place to ask is www.simplemachines.org

however for a newcomer simpleportal is easy to navigate.
