Title: Install error!
Post by: Tradition on June 21, 2010, 01:30:30 AM
I used version 1.1.11 SMF and SimplePortal version 2.3.2.

The install went fine and it shows good on the "Home" page but on the forum page it gives this database error:

Database Error
Illegal mix of collations (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation 'ifnull'
File: /home/tradme/public_html/support/Sources/Subs-Portal.php
Line: 1112

This particular forum is only a week old and I am unsure on how to repair the miss-match. I have been using Tiny Portal for 4 or 5 years at another forum of mine but wanted to try Simple Portal on this new forum since TP is shutting down and there may not be any real support. thanks for any help.

I deactivated the shoutbox and the error went away so I guess the SB is whats causing the database problem. The portal still will not display on any page except the "Home" page even with the SB deactivated. Is the Simple portal supposed to display on all forum pages? If so then my install has other problems.

When I set Simple Portal to "integrated" it will not show on the forum pages. I am going through the settings again to see if I missed anything but I have been through them several times and I did a re-install just to make sure but that did not help either. I'm hosted at Hostgator on a VPS server if that makes a difference.

I am not certain if you have an install error, so I will find out more.

1) SimplePortal gives you an easy way to control where the blocks appear.  Please begin reading at http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=working_with_blocks (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=working_with_blocks) to learn more about controlling where blocks appear.

2) What language have you selected for viewing this forum?

3) Do you have any other mods installed?

Thank you for the response. I will go back and check the block settings once more and take a few screen shots to display what is happening.

OK.  Please report whether you have those blocks set to appear on "portal" (the home page), "forum", or "everywhere".
Thanks
