Title: White screen all areas when installing SP 233

I've just moved my forum to a new, more reliable Host.
I did a new full install of RC4 and linked it to my dB and all was well.
I installed a couple of small mods (BBCode mods) just to check the package installer was working.
I then installed SP233. The install showed no errors but as soon as the auto redirect occured all pages now just show a blank white screen. I could not view any pages on the forum
I checked what the installer does and discovered that none of the files for Sources or Themes/Default are copied into those folders.
I downloaded and removed the SP code from the index.php and SSI.php and uploaded them manually. I can now use the forum again. The error log is naturally filled with Undefined errors like this one.

I uninstalled SP, downloaded the same tar file again, just in case it was corrupted in some way.

Uploaded and installed it and back to White screens.

Any ideas?

Just discovered by installing another package that it's not moving files from the installer or creating folders as required, so it's most likely an SMF issue rather than a SP issue.

Hi Chas,
Sounds like it might be a permission problem.
The permission settings on your folders might not be lenient enough to allow Package Manager to copy the files, even though the permission settings on the files are lenient enough to allow it to edit the files.
 
I do not know why Package Manager has no way to check that it actually succeeded in copying the files into place. But there you are.

Thanks Angelina and you're absolutely right, it is the permissions. I'll look at the topic you linked to thanks but I think it's my host. In an effort to solve it I changed everything to 777 and then got a Server 500 error and had to change them back to 755. I can upload files manually and have sucessfully installed SP by upoading all the files and folders first, then running the installer. All is well on that score.

Wow! That's annoying. Hope you haven't got many more to do that way.
Some users have reported even less permissive settings are necessary, and actually result in files getting installed. Strange.
