Not sure how a horizontal user info block should look like. Do you have something in mind? Some rough pictures might help.

I would be very interested in this as well.  Back when I used tinyportal I had a block made up.    I will post what it looks like here.    There is extra stuff in it that is not needed, so just omit that.   I believe this is what phantomm was talking about and I think it's a good idea.
