Title: Another Status Update
Post by: [SiNaN] on August 25, 2011, 08:38:55 AM
Hello everyone,

It has been another long time since the last blog post but I'm sure you're getting used to it. As I have noted in another blog post topic, there have been drastic changes in my life over the summer, such as graduating from university and moving to a totally new country. So it's taking some time for me to settle down and get used to this new life.

As you already see, 2.3.4 isn't out yet, which is a pretty unfortunate situation. I did plenty of coding 2 weeks ago and was planning to get 2.3.4 ready by then but things didn't go as I expected them to. (they never do!) So after two weeks, there is again some activity back and the issue list is down to a single page. Unless something unexpected happens, we'll have 2.3.4 ready soon and it'll include most of the little features anticipated by the community.

Other than the development; as you all know, grafitus joined us as a Customizer and recently Blue joined as an Apprentice Customizer. Also, AngelinaBelle has been back and continuing assisting with/shouldering all your support requests alone. I should also note that we've almost reached to 20,000 downloads for SimplePortal 2.3.3 package (it's 19992 by the time I'm writing this) and I've passed 5,000 post count, so Nathaniel is no longer alone in the 5k club.

Lastly, I would like to thank you all for your patience continued support. Hopefully, we won't let you down.

Sinan I have been using SP since the days of 1.1.8 and always will be.

I am still learning how to use some of the features too.

(Pages I only started using earlier this year, or was it last year?)

Anyways kiddo congratulations on the graduation ( darn skool kids).

@Grafitus and Blue hope you two have fun  with the customising. Hope Sinan doesn't have to hold a whip over you both.

Am sad Nathaniels had to take a step down though.

Hi SiNaN, hope things are going well in Bosnia. Do you have a new job there - how's it going?

I don't want to harass you over the date of release, just an enquiry over any new features. We are setting up a new SMF forum to move into (from a e107 / Yuku board) and are at the stage where we will be transferring non-forum information.

It would be a pity to copy all these onto installed mods only to find that SP now has these features, and have to copy them once again! So I wonder if there are any new features in the new SP, and if so what they are?

Thank you for providing such a great mod :)

Thanks! I'm doing fine here. I'm an English language teacher and trying to get used to it.

There are plenty of new features in 2.3.4. You can check the issue tracker for changes:

First two pages are the issues tracked for 2.3.4.

Thanks for the info.

Glad to hear it's going well there. A few years ago I moved 100 miles from my home city (London to Bristol) and it felt like moving to another country and probably took 2½ years to get used to it, so I can appreciate what a big step yours is (from GB?). You are wise to have moved to their capital city- people are less friendly but it's easier to make friends :)

I don't have access to it, it says "You are not allowed to view issues of this project." :P

I know what that is :dead: I moved to Brazil and I will be here until 2012.

I'm scared to think of that scenario.  I would have to find someone ELSE with the patience of a saint to answer all of my stupid questions!

I don't think there's anyone else OUT there willing to do it...  ;D

Right, because I'm sure absolutely no one else here gives a damn about those asking for support.

Everyone helps a bit (you do help us a lot :)) and we all have to agree that AngelinaBelle takes a big role on helping ;)

Sorry. I'll fix that in a bit.

Well, they do "give a damn" about those asking for support. Whether they can do anything about it or not is a totally different matter.

I'm not underestimating her efforts and skills and I'm probably the one who appreciates her support the most and have said so. However, nobody on this team is irreplaceable. People will come and go but there will always be someone to replace them.

That was the basis for the comment I made regarding it. Angelina isn't the only person here that gives support. Everyone here does what they can, you shouldn't say she does it alone. She has help, from us.

I have written that blog post by the end of August. In the few months time between the previous blog post and this one, she has been pretty much the only one providing support. I don't have the time to get the stats for you, but sadly that was the case. It was more of appreciating her efforts than underestimating others' help. Of course I'm happy to see and appreciate recent help from community regarding support and hope that they continue it.

Dude....I never intended it to come across that way. I was referring to my endless and more STUPID questions that I have sometimes been known to ask.  I was attempting to pay her a compliment because she has always fielded those questions from me, personally, with a great deal of patience and grace. There's no need to infer that I was trying to take away any credit that is due to others on the support team....that would never be my intent, sir.  Ever.  I never meant to demean or minimize the support that others give on this site.  Again, I was paying her a compliment regarding *MY* experiences and *MY* encounters with her as a great example of support. Complimenting her certainly does not de-value anybody else's abilities. Sorry if my attempts to pay a compliment to one person....ended up ruffling the feathers of others. Geez. Lighten up.
