Download repair_settings.php from Simple Machines, and make sure all the paths are right.

Make sure you have it so guests can browse the forums via permissions in the admin panel as well.

Oh sorry, I thought you were saying you wanted guests to browse.

Anyways, you are entirely sure all the paths are correct through repair_settings.php?

Is there any errors in your Server Log?

something else is going on.
Are you using pretty URLs?

The url should be /index.php?action=forum, not /action=forum.

Either SMF is making up a bad URL for some reason, or else the "index?" part is getting filtered out before SMF gets hold of it.
We need to figure out which one of these things is going on.

Please try the following URL: http://www.mydomain.co.uk/index.php?action=forum (http://www.mydomain.co.uk/index.php?action=forum)

And report back what happens next.

When you try the URL containing
index.php?action=forum

What URL does your browser say you have landed on?
Title: Re: log in

OK. when you go to /index.php?action=forum, please
1) report what the URL of the page was when you landed there
2) Show us what the links on the menu buttons looked like
Do you have pretty urls turned on?

http://www.mydomain.co.uk/index.php = home page guest must sign in or register

after username password http://www.mydomain.co.uk/action=forum = get the error page as on first post

changed the url to http://www.mydomain.co.uk/index.php?action=forum clicked save

and then am here /index.php?action=forum/index.php?action=admin;area=serversettings;sa=database;save

which is the forum area

i then click home tab = its the forum area
i click forum tab = its the forum area
i get this with every menu tab its just the forum showing
i try my profile tab samething
i click on admin tab or any of the drop down boxes samething
no matter what tab i press it doesnt go anywhere just the forum
i press the log out tab doesnt log me out lol

now i need to redo repair setting to fix,man this is a ball...

(Forgot to mention i do not use any pretty urls) as said in previous posts

OK.  so this problem does not seem to be caused by a mod.
What does your .htaccess file say?
Title: Re: log in
Post by: Scooby on September 07, 2011, 09:45:47 AM

Are you using a standalone portal page?
If so, please see the documentation about setting up the standalone portal page:
http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=set_up_standalone_portal (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=set_up_standalone_portal)
Title: Re: log in
Post by: Scooby on September 11, 2011, 02:50:16 AM
by changing to 'full/path/to/forum'  i then get 3 errors on the following line

Code: [Select]
// Should be the full path!
$forum_dir = 'full/path/to/forum';

// Let them know the mode.
$sp_standalone = true;

// Hmm, wrong forum dir?
if (!file_exists($forum_dir . '/index.php'))

so know i have changed the setting so the guests can view forums,which logging in and out there is no problem.

I am sorry. I don't think I understand.
Can you please show me what the line in your portal standalone file looks like, the one that starts with
$forum_dir

Thanks
