Title: Menu adding function with the portal (plus alternative lang string)
Post by: andy on September 11, 2011, 02:23:56 PM
Menus
So far the only way to add pages to the main menu is to use 3rd party mods - not ideal.

The best one adds a maximum of 6 tabs but only 4 menu links per tab. The top menu starts to overflow pretty soon. It would be better if more menu items could be added vertically.

Languages
TPortal has extra language string input for block titles too - would be nice.
These days many sites use more than 1 language and it would be better if pages, blocks, menus, could all have other language titles. I think at least alternative language text can be used for block text strings.

So far Im very happy with Simple Portal but on a bilingual site its produces too many pages and menus as things are - at the moment, adding them is not possible. It also affects targeted (language) ads.
I worry about adding blocks instead of page text (for translations) in case search engine ranking drops. I guess standard html I could put meta data in them...

But so far so good.

As I said in the other topic, we're considering a menu management feature for the next major update.

I'm going to do something about translating block titles in 2.3.4 too.
