Moving Simple Portal Settings ...
« on: June 06, 2009, 05:19:01 PM »
Hi all,

I knew I would have some questions,

  • SMF Version 2.0rc1-1
  • SP Version 2.2.2
  • Link: Forum is located Here

I have been running simple portal on my local copy of my website and  have now got all the blocks set up how I want, how would I move those block settings to my actual website, is it just a case of installing sp on my remote server and then importing the SP database tables, or is there more to it than that.

Installing SimplePortal on your actual website, then overwriting the "sp_%" database tables with the ones from your local copy will only copy the blocks, articles and categories data. It will copy all your SP data apart from the settings which are found in the "Configueration section of the SimplePortal admin area". They are stored in the 'settings' table, but so are all your SMF settings.

The easiest thing to do would be to:
1) Install SP.
2) Overwrite the "sp_%" tables.
3) Configure your settings how you want them on your main site (should only take a minute if you have the admin panel from your local site open at the same time ;)).

Thanks Nathaniel,

As it happens I tried to overwrite the tables and yes it did mess up the settings, all the sp icons disappeared, so I actually ended up dropping the sp tables and doing a full reinstall of SP and just re-set up the blocks as per my local install, but I will make a note of what you said for next time, Thank you for your help.

Oh btw why aren't my SMF and SP versions showing up on the left hand side under my Avatar

Jon

Custom profile fields only show for other members on SMF 2, not yourself. I can see your versions. :)

Glad your issue is resolved. Marked as solved.
