Custom Display Options for Blocks
« on: June 01, 2009, 03:08:01 PM »
Hi all!

First let me say how much I love SP   :in-love:

I have been using SMF for years and after having tried to enjoy and install other portal solutions SP is by far the easiest to install and work with: cheers to you all for a great package! SP does everything I want and more  ;)

Ok, now on to my question.

I am having difficulty understanding how to implement the custom display options for blocks  :-[

My quandry is this:

I am using the Bakers Dozen mod for SMF and because of the way I have my layout for those pages I do not want the blocks to appear there.

I read the help snippet associated with the custom display options and "thought" I understood how it worked.

If I read correctly, I want to use this option:
Quote
Negator (-)
This symbol is to exclude regular and dynamic actions. Should be used before the action name for regular actions and before the wavy for dynamic actions. Used as -action and -~action

The action used to access the first page is ?action=pages  then to access the additional pages a sub-action of sa=x  is used, x  being a number 2-13.

I thought I understood the help tip and so chose -~pages  as my custom setting....however now the blocks no longer show up on any page when I do that  :dead:

Could a kind soul give me a push in the right direction?

I am using SMF 1.1.9 and SP 2.2.1 and I have SP set to Frontpage mode.

Thank you kindly in advance!

Edit: corrected a typing error.

Try -pages without the ~.

The ~ symbol is for actions like index.php?pages and not index.php?action=pages. These are like index.php?topic, index.php?board, etc.
Ms. Eliana TamerinIt should be painfully obvious by now that I don't respond to support PMs. Don't send me PMs for support. They will be ignored and deleted, post on the Support Boards to get support.

Hi!

thank you for replying so quickly.

Sadly no difference  :(

The blocks are still not showing up on the other pages.

When you set the custom options, are you only disallowing them on the pages action? Or are you also telling SP which pages TO show them on? Have you checked any of the options available or are you using this kind of syntax:

Code: [Select]
all,-pages

In the custom display options text field?

me again... :-[

ok so I think I found a bug, but I'm not sure so I didn't want to start a new thread yet  ;)

here goes,

when I use the normal dropdown options for where I want something to appear (in this case "forum") it functions as intended, the blocks appear on everything but the Portal page.

however, if I choose to be a bit more specific and use the advanced option to filter some actions within the forum it fails to function properly:

with this filter: forum, -pages, -raider

my blocks should appear on everything but those actions and the portal, that is not the case.

the blocks appear on the boardindex as expected but fail to appear anywhere else, i.e., if I go into one of the boards I have the blocks are gone, and no it is not one of the filtered actions, though the filter works (I guess) since they do not appear on those actions either, but as I said with the filter above applied my blocks are only showing on the boardindex.

to make sure I was not goofing up I reset it to "forum" through the dropdown menu and it functions as intended again:

Quote
all actions and boards, except portal.

so I'm not sure if I am using the filter improperly or if this might be a bug  :dead:

any insight into this strange behavior?

thanks!

Instead of forum use sforum if you want block to be displayed in boards and topics too.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...
