Simple Portal - Incompatibility with some browsers
« on: August 30, 2009, 05:45:24 PM »
Hello all,

I am using smf 1.1.10, babylonian theme and simple portal 2.2.2 (The latest). Simple portal has been my saving grace for display of ads on my forum and layout

I only discovered recently that my users are complaining that the text and graphics are overlying.

I use a Mac OX and use both Firefox and Safari, and the portal looks ok(No overalignment)

I found out that when i checked the forum from a public cafe using I.E or mozilla, I found out that the portal was actually overlying text and graphic

I need help... Thanks

Looks fine for me in Opera, IE8 (in both native and compatability modes) and Firefox.
My guess is your members need to update their old browsers.

These sorts of issues are usually caused by the content of the blocks, for example the banner that you have in the top block, may be too large for certain screen resolutions. So if the screen res is lower at the internet cafe, then it won't show properly.

i tend to agree with you cus i used mozilla 3.5.2 in a cafe which was the latest updated version of the browser...

As rgds the screen resolution , is there anything i can do?

also the recent items below seemed to be underlying on the right block too...

could be cus of screen resolution....

is there a way out???

thanks

With content such as large images, its difficult to make it work on smaller screen resolutions. Generally most people have a screen resolution of 1024x768 and above, so you should optimize your site so that it works well at that screen res and above. Of course making those images narrower could fix the problem on an even smaller screen res.
