Mobile Device and SimplePortal behavior
« on: January 26, 2010, 02:07:16 AM »
SimplePortal version 2.3.1
SMF version 1.1.11

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the following behavior?

I implemented SimplePortal a few weeks. Works like a charm and fulfilling its mission of spicing up a simulation baseball league forum. I have no problems with SP (except for an extraneous space in blocks issue in IE6 which I posted about separately). However, there is one user getting unusual behavior when viewing the site with a Samsung Propel mobile phone. And only this mobile device it seems. I checked the site on an iPhone without issues.

This user is reporting that when he goes to http://dmbo.us/ he is taken directly to the SMF forum (board index), bypassing the portal page completely. He also reports he is not even presented with the menu that would normally allow him to select Home to go to the portal page.

This behavior only began after I implemented SimplePortal so I am assuming there is something involved in SimplePortal that would force a load of the forum and not the portal. Is this correct?

I checked the SimplePortal configuration settings and the only one that jumped out at me as possibly impacting the user was 'Disable Portal Redirection'. But he gets the same behavior whether this is checked or unchecked.

Any ideas?

SP was not built for mobile devices-- it should automatically disable itself on wap.

Yeah, we SP doesn't support WAP mode yet. So it'll redirect user to board index.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Yeah, we SP doesn't support WAP mode yet. So it'll redirect user to board index.
But if I visit my portal (I'm in standalone mode) it doesn't redirect to the forum (wap2)...
Maybe it works only if not using standalone mode?

I remember fixing that bug. You might be using an outdated version of PortalStandalone.php file.

Did you update your standalone portal file when you updated to 2.3.1 version? It is not updated automatically since we won't know where you put the standalone portal file.
