No forum button on the header
« on: January 28, 2010, 08:40:00 PM »
I just installed SP but I have a problem.. I have a home button which takes me to the portal home but no Forum button?

Can anyone help me out? What do I need to do to get a forum button on the header menu.. the only way you can get to the forum now is to scroll down to the hot topics and click on one..

thanks in advance

You will have to modify the index.template.php file if you are using SMF 1.1.X or if you are using SMF 2.0 then you will have to modify the Subs.php file.  Please attach the appropriate file and I can add it for you.

Also here is a tutorial which would help you adding a "Forum" button:

http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=148.0
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

I  need to know what theme you are using as well so I can get you a button for the forum.

Ok I've updated the file for you but you will have to do a couple things in order for it to work.

1. Click on the link that you supplied me for the theme and download the extra buttons zip file.  Extract the forum.gif file and upload it to theme being used/images/english folder.

2. open up index.english.php located in themes/default/languages

find this
Code: [Select]
?>
add this before
Code: [Select]
$txt['forum'] = 'Forum';
Now I'm assuming that your forum is using english as the language.
Do all the above and the button should work properly.

Let me know how you make out,
Chris

Basically all I do is copy the code for another button.  The only things you really have to change is the action, the txt and the image name.  Some other ones involve a little more like adding the action so the button shows as the active button.  Glad everything worked out for you.
