I know Simple Portal has its own shoutbox but it's nice to have options...

Here is a neat little shoutbox widget that includes multiple chat rooms, sounds, smileys, etc... And it can be set up so that multiple sites can chat in a room together (at least one person has to create the room and you can make it private for you and your buddies sites if you want or public for all).  Other public/private chat rooms are also available for access. (main is private on site)
It remembers IP's for user names (once edited)..
After I mess with it a bit, if I find that it is set up so one can pass the user name info via the embed code I will edit and adjust it. (and add to this thread).

Shoutbox Widget PHP Portal Block Code:

echo '<div style="text-align:center;"><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyODE*MDUxNzM3MjImcHQ9MTI4MTQwNTIyNDIxOSZwPTUzMTUxJmQ9Jmc9MiZvPWRmYWMyYjYxNjliOTQ4ZTk4NDhi/MTRiNWFlM2E4ZmQ5Jm9mPTA=.gif" /><embed src="http://www.xatech.com/web_gear/chat/chat.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="540" height="405" name="chat" FlashVars="id=106838306" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://xat.com/update_flash.shtml" /><br /></div>';

I have seen this widget before and whilst the idea of group/multi board chat sounds good, from
what i saw when reviewing it was merely a magnet for spamming

Thank you anyway

It's just an option..

and btw - people can spam in any shoutbox .. the one that is here contains some quite often  (disabling url's is an option).
it just has to be monitored.

... after playing around with it a bit I'm not highly fond of it either.. but some people may want the free shared chatroom option.
