I was wondering what code is needed to make the width of my blocks bigger. Right now the blocks widths are too small and as a result are cramming my text.

You can change the width of your right and left sides in the Admin panel under SimplePortal -> Configuration -> Block Settings. If that doesn't help then could you please post a link/image of your issue?
