Menu buttons go missing in Standalone Mode
« on: October 19, 2009, 04:17:33 PM »
Hi, have installed SP2.3.1 upgrade and all is well, thank you.

I have just set up my Standalone option. I modified the PortalStandalone.php file and renamed it index.php then placed this in the root of my website, having removed the old index.html. Changed to standalone mode in the forum, entered the URL and et, voila, it all works great :)

Now I have one small issue. I use this Menu Buttons mod to add several extra buttons to the main menu bar. These are fine in Forum View and were OK when the forum was set to Front Page Mode but now I've changed to Stand Alone mode, the extra buttons do not appear on the home page.

I am happy to manually edit any file and place the buttons but the problem is which file? There is no Menu in the web index.php (formally PortalStandalone.php) so which file can I edit to restore the menu buttons to the home page.

Regards
Hal

That looks like an issue with the menu mod that you are using. It doesn't show the buttons it creates when SMF is being used via the SSI.php file.

I would suggest that you ask the mod author for support, as its an issue with that particular mod. The likely solution is to add some code to the SSI.php file, that the index.php file has, although the mods author would probably be a better person to ask. :)

Thanks for that Nathaniel. I have requested assistance from the Menu Button Mod support but it's quite an old mod and has not been updated in a while so not sure I'll get the help I need.

In the meantime, can you tell me how I can add a couple of buttons to the mani menu in the SSI.php file, so that I can use them to link to the necessary pages within the site. Nothing special just a web link.

Oh, its made by those guys. >.<

Try the edits below to your SSI.php file, hopefully it should fix the issue accross all files using the SSI.php file.

Code: ("Find") [Select]
require_once($sourcedir . '/Security.php');
Code: ("Replace") [Select]
require_once($sourcedir . '/Security.php');

/** next x-Links **/
if (file_exists($sourcedir . '/LoadxLinks.php'))
require_once($sourcedir . '/LoadxLinks.php');

Code: ("Find") [Select]
loadPermissions();
Code: ("Replace") [Select]
loadPermissions();

/** next x-Links **/
if (function_exists("loadxLinks"))
loadxLinks();

Those edits may not work, I haven't tested them, but its likely that they will work.

Thanks for that Nathaniel. I tried the edits on my test and development forum but the home page just gives the following error message now:

Incorrect table name ''
File: /home/nas05l/f/fiftyplusforum.co.uk/user/htdocs/devtest2/Sources/LoadxLinks.php
Line: 11

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF, while your database is at version 1.1.8. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

I think the second part is a Red Herring.

The LoadxLinks.php file is in the Sources folder and of course the links work OK on the forum page.

I think the other edits to the SSI.php file from the manual install of the Menu Buttons are required, the one at the beginning

Code: ("Find:") [Select]
'trackip' => array('Profile.php', 'trackIP'),
Code: ("Add After:") [Select]
/** next x-Links **/
'xlinks' => array('xLinks.php', 'xLinks'),

really needs to be included but I couldn't work out where to put it.

At the end of the day, trying to mod the SSI.php file to work with this mod is not going to work. Can you tell me if there is just a way to add extra buttons to the SSI file?

I'm afraid that its not that simple. You can't just add buttons for the SSI.php file, you have to add them to the Themes/default/index.template.php file for SMF 1.1.10.

Their mod is designed to make adding links easier, because you can do it via the admin area, its a pity that they put a huge link advertising their overpriced paid services as well... I'll make a links mod which pwns theirs when I get some free time. ;)

Anyway, I tested the problem, its an issue with their code. Perform the edits I posted above (if you have undone them), as well as this edit.

Code: ("Find (sources/LoadxLinks.php)") [Select]
`{$db_prefix}xlinks`
Code: ("Replace") [Select]
{$db_prefix}xlinks

Nathaniel, you're a genius. The mod now works great, thank you so much.

Such great support is so hard to find these days.

I'm learning PHP but right now I'm a real novice and would never have found that little bit of poor code.

Cheers

Glad I could help. :)

Its really something that the mod should be doing by default though...
