SimplePortal 2.3.4 RC1 Released!
« on: November 13, 2011, 08:24:04 AM »
The SimplePortal Team has been hard at work for the last several months developing the next version of SimplePortal, 2.3.4, code-named "cherry"! We've heard your feedback, and included many requested features in our upcoming version, although it was supposed to be a bug-fix-only release.

Since we would like to have testing and feedback for our new version, in order to provide you the most stable product possible, we have decided to make our release candidate public. This means you can download the upcoming version now, test and report the bugs.

However, please note that: There will be no install/upgrade/uninstall support provided for/from RC1 version. Although this is a stable version, we strongly advise against using this package on your live forums. This package is only for testing purposes.

For those who are wondering, here's some (but not all) of the features of our new version:
 • SMF 2.0.1 and 1.1.15 compatibility.
 • Two new positions for blocks: header and footer.
 • Revamped permission system with the ability to deny permissions.
 • Complex display options using PHP expressions for block display.
 • Implemented basic flood protection for shoutbox.
 • Introduced group based shoutbox moderators.
 • Added ability to prune shoutboxes with various options.
 • Links posted to shoutbox are now shortened.
 • Added ability to whisper (write private shouts) in shoutbox.
 • Improved compatibility with other mods.
 • Improved Right-To-Left languages support.
 • Fixed the bugs reported in 2.3.3.
Your feedback is welcome here and in the related topics in Team Blogs board. Please post any bugs to the Bugs board.

You can download the package from Beta Packages category in Downloads area.

Thanks,
-The SimplePortal Team

In case you don't know about this anomaly; I tried to download your new release using Firefox 8 and it offered me an index.php, file instead of the zip file being offered. I tried other downloads too, and got the same result.

This may be a bug in Firefox 8, but I don't really know, but I thought I'd report it to you so you could test to make sure it wasn't on your end and if it wasn't offer a workaround, like use Chrome.

I was able to download using Chrome 15.0.874.120 m. It worked in IE9 too.

Thanks for your time and effort on this product.

I think you are dismissing too easily your own deep involvement and importance to SP, AngelinaBelle. ;D
I haven't been around as long as many of the other faithful members here, but i do know a hardcore supporter when i see one.
Anyway, just speaking my mind here.

Yes, unfortunately. The year I spent on developing SMF was pretty much lost for SP. Anyway, as you see, we're now back and kicking.

I do not mind at all it was a year later. I was currently about 4 days away of starting a new community based on another portalsystem. This for my company since I needed something that could handle SMF2 and did not want to risk it on something that mind no longer were going to be upated. So now I just scrap the work I have done and redo it with you people. Since I like you more.  :in-love:

That means you can use PHP expressions for Custom Display Option field. You just need to prefix your expression with $php. Example:

Code: [Select]
$php $some_number = 1000; return $some_number > 10;
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

In order to provide greater consistency and the top quality, I removed the translations provided in attachments here. While we appreciate the efforts of those who submitted, we encourage them to contact myself or [SiNaN] in order to become an official SimplePortal translator. We would much rather everyone was able to download language packs from the Downloads area and could be assured of the same quality you find with SP.

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words on support.
I do try.  I wish there were more support help, though.

I almost missed the hidden message to me in the last sentence. I'll try, as you seem to be a lot busy with SMF stuff lately.

And, oh Sian! Everyone who uses SMF has benefitted from your tireless work over there. I hope you were able to put in enough "SP-ready" stuff while you were at it.

I hope they did and more people will. I tried to avoid adding SP-ready stuff but I tried to add in plenty of stuff that would come in handy to most mod authors using my experiences as a mod author.

By the way -- love your avatar's 80's narrow-tie look. It's good to see a young man such as yourself in a nice suit and tie!

Lol, thank you. Actually the way he dresses looks similar to mine. And his looks too... Maybe my hair is darker though. ;P

Great job! Unfortunately I have no forum anymore because I am too busy with my work as web-designer. I have a website of course, but it is based on Joomla.

I'll still visit you here regularly because of nostalgic reasons and also of course to stay well informed...you never know what future brings.

Thanks anyway for everything and the good service!

Kind regards
Katrien

Thanks for stopping by to share this post with us. Good luck with whatever you are doing now!
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

You forget.  I'm from the US.  We're not that subtle!
I'm really hoping to spot the next support specialist helping other community members on this forum.  You know -- a friendly, courteous person who tries very hard to give correct answers, and to bring more-knowledgeable people to the problem if needed, and is always working to improve his or her knowledge at the same time.
Of  course, this describes you, but please stick with the part of this project you love the best.

Seems like no bugs have surfaced... I haven't had much time to do any intensive testing, especially since it was made clear in the first post that this RC release should not be used on live forums. So, is RC2 next or just final? Christmas release? Too many questions, i know. :D

I am testing and found some things that did not work, I do not know if bug or not even exist. follows:

Custom Permissions to Shoutboxes - Does not work in packs, have tried everything but does not work, have to the A or X and nothing.

Shoutboxes - Font size does not, appear in the code size appears from this example.
Code: [Select]
TEST
SMF Version: 2.0.1
SP Version: 2.3.4 RC1

Edit: Removed the link to the forum as it was not related.

It turned out to be pretty stable. So we'll probably just release the final and that'll be very soon.

Sorry but I didn't understand anything from your post. Please create a new topic in the Bugs board providing more detailed information.

[SiNaN], he means that the tags aren't parsing in the Shoutbox. Which, I think is intentional.
Ms. Eliana TamerinIt should be painfully obvious by now that I don't respond to support PMs. Don't send me PMs for support. They will be ignored and deleted, post on the Support Boards to get support.

Welll, the size tag should work and it works here if you have enabled it for the shoutbox from shoutbox settings.

It's like Eliane wrote to test check all the settings and did not work.
But I will open a new topic to report errors.

I'm from Brazil and my language is Portuguese.
