Hi friends. I installed the Simpleportal(up-to-date version) through my SMF 2.0.1 forum. I disabled the portal, because I just need the "Shoutbox". I inserted to my forum(I'm using the default theme) :

Sometimes; when I wrote a message, it was not shown in Shoutbox. The "loading" circle at the right-top continuously, but nothing happens. And sometimes; I can chat with my friends without any problem. My shoutbox settings :

Where am I making mistake ? Can you help me please ? Thanks so much.

If you disable the portal completely, you should not see any blocks at all.
I would recommend "integration" mode.

The problem you are having with the shoutbox sounds like an AJAX problem.
This means it could be a problem either with the php on the server side, or with the javascript running in the browser.

Do you have any other mods installed at the same time?
Does it make any difference which browser you use.

This is the first time that I installed the "SimplePortal". I had installed the last modification(Enhanced PM Popup) 3-4 days ago.

I'm using the shoutbox with "Integration" mode.

I've tried on Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla Firefox too. But the result is still the same.

This maybe the server-side problem as you said.

The server itself is another source of problems I did not mention. At the times when the shoutbox fails, are there any other problems with slowness on your site?

I see that you have several mods which might involve some javascript. ResizeImagesToFitScreen, Enhanced PM Popup, Nice Tootips, maybe Facebook Slide Like Box. I am not familiar with these mods, so I am only guessing.

A Simple Test could be to turn off all these other mods temporarily, and hope to see some improvement.
Could you try that?

You are saying that
1) You are running simplePortal in integration mode
2) You disabled or uninstalled all of your other mods
3) You have tried using shoutbox in several browsers (not just FireFox)

I think this one is going to be difficult to track down.

Do you have times when it takes a long time to load a page on your forum?
Are these the same times when the shoutbox does not work?

I think I have the same problem
complete reinstallation SMF 2.01 (database upgrade 1.1.15.)
simple portal 2.3.4
schoutbox not working
The "loading" circle at the top right Continuously turning, but nothing happens

on the same server is already a forum 1.1.15. with simple portal 2.3.3.
no problems there
may lie in the database of the forum I've upgraded

If you f5 your browser, do the shouts show?

I had a similar problem, typing a shout and hitting the "shout" button or enter did NOT display the shout in the shoutbox, but refreshing the whole browser did. It appeared to be a javascript error. I wasn't able to track down the exact problem, my fix was rather dramatic, I reloaded my forum from scratch, making sure that SP was the first mod I installed, with all my other mods installed after SP. Hope this helps to track down the problem a little.

I take a copy of my 1.1.15. Forum and upgrade to 2.0.1.
I later Install simple portal
same result

I've seen all the files in the package parser
everything is in place
I see now that if I put the forum in english
The shout works perfectly
when I switch to my languages, it does not work

Can you try putting the language to English, to see if that seems to fix the problem?
That would certainly narrow things down!

If it only works for admin then it is probably your permission settings - as admin can do anything usually.
Mine is working for users in 2 languages no problem...

I would check the permissions in 2 places:

Under the Simple Portal menu for the shoutbox - bottom of the list. Mine is set to 'everyone' - I think these are permissions to access the shoutbox - view for guests and add messages for registered users.

Then look in the portal block page for the shoutbox block - open settings for that block. There are more permissions there (guest, member, everyone, custom). These are to show the block the shoutbox is in.

I would set both permissions to 'everyone' - guests can see, users can add messages.

I also tried several exotic languages from Arabic to Russian through Europe and everything displayed ... smf database is utf8 though.

Admin writes and works well shoutbox

Users see the shoutbox, and can write but not display what you have posted only a still image is animated and there's no text - how to refresh page then it can be seen only

Unless my host change the settings on the server around the same time as Sp 2.3.4 was released - I doubt it is that... or same for firefox 8 - i made no changes to firewall settings, browser or OS so cant see it being pc problem either.
And it was working ok before I updated to SP 2.3.4 - remember testing it for quite a while.

One site giving trouble is on Bluehost shared hosting plan. I cant remember having problems before with the refresh - a month ago or so.
I tested different accounts and different browsers ... there might be something related to firefox 8 but I'm still having problems with Chrome and Opera. It often displays shouts after the first one with refresh, then it doesn't work until the page is reloaded. After a reload the refresh 'usually' works 1 more time before it stops working until another page reload.

I've spent too much time on this already so its a closed topic for me now.

These AJAX problems can be tricky, and difficult to track down.

I'm surprised that you had success with an old language file, but not with a new one.
How much difference is there between the two?
