How to use/see blocks in forum?
« on: April 09, 2012, 12:33:33 PM »
Hi. I have a fresh intst. of SMF and also the last version of this portal. Looks great. This might be a stupid question, but I have not been able to figure out how to use the blocks also at the forum. I suppose there are something I have missed reading the documentation, but can someone guide me here, please?

Have you looked in the admin area under Simple Portal?

As your install has gone well, I hope you won't mind me moving this to the support board here at SimplePortal.net

Did you find the blocks list?

Thank you very much, all three of you. I found the block list...actually I looked at it several times before asking here :-[. No idea why, but in my mind I looked for...don't know...some other way to add blocks to the forum. Might very well be related to my poor english combined with a strange idea that it would have to be something else I needed.

I'm really looking forward to play with this portal, it looks GREAT with all the possibilities it has.

AngelinaBelle: of course I don't mind you moving it, I should have posted here in the first place. Sorry for the mistake.

Again thank you for the great and fast answers, looks as if the support is just as good as the produckt. :D

The way the top level links on the support page redirect to the main page isnt good. I did this several times trying to get pages before I realized. I thought there were no support page details.

In Docs, all the top level links for Introduction, Install, Setup, Blocks, go to the intro page;
http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs#

I was clicking them for ages getting a bit annoyed.
Maybe better to make a new intro page for each item in the top menu. Or make the top menu link inactive... but this might not be possible/standard in SMF menu links. I have similar trouble with top level links that have to point to something. Other cms's just designate it a separator.

I've never thought of that.  The behavior is exactly like the behavior for the admin center menues -- the top-level buttons all point back to the current page.  Only the lower-level items work.

I never notice it because I use the SMF 1.1 style left-side list for both.

I wasn't used to it ... I was about to post something  asking why there were no support pages done yet!  :P

Ive had the opposite too - on my site I made the top menu a separator with no link as the sub-menu had different options for 1 main category at the top. A few members kept trying to click the top option rather than go into the sub-menus. Complained the site wasn't working.
I cant believe so many people out there using smart phones, ipods, ipads, microsoft office etc every day and still too tech-dumb to recover their forgotten password.
