Blocks in pages
« on: April 11, 2012, 01:32:10 PM »
Hello,
Another issue I noticed after upgrading to 2.3.5 is that all the blocks disappeared from the portal pages. I see there's a list where you can mark which blocks should show on a page but it doesn't seem to work at all for me, :S
No block shows whatsoever on pages. In fact, now when I tick the box for "Display Blocks in Forum" they don't show up either. :S

Check the permissions ... there was a change to the permissions design in SP  - new.. admin can be set to not see blocks and after upgrade the settings might be different for other groups. Go through and check they are correct. This is probably the most likely answer.

Where can I find this permission? :S It says administrators have all permissions in the list, and I can still see blocks on the portal frontpage.
When I log out it's the same.

When you edit a block you will see the permissions near the top ... slightly different in 2.3.5 than other versions show in this:

http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=block_editor

There is a drop down box for permissions; Guest, Members, Everyone, Custom (you set for each group - allow, disallow, deny)

Yes, but all active blocks have "Everyone" as setting. I did put it on Custom and set all on A for allow though but it didn't make any difference. :/ All blocks work perfectly on the front page but non work on Pages even though I have marked them in that list for the page in question.

1. You say all blocks disappeared from the front/portal page. And they do not show on other pages.
2. All blocks now work on the front page but not other pages.

So the front page is working fine now?
Your problem now is the blocks do not show on other pages.

Are these pages Simple Portal standard pages (simple checkbox), custom pages you made (simple checkbox), or other mod pages (needs custom display options)?

Can you give page links?
Can you give a screenshot of the block settings? - everything - permissions etc.

I cant really offer anymore help without details.
Andy

I didn't mean the front portal page, :P I mean pages as in Pages, the SimplePortal function called Pages. It doesn't show in any Pages (I write it with capital P now, :P) The front page worked fine all the time, sorry.

These Pages are BBC type that I made in the SimplePortal function called Pages.
Here is the settings for this Page: http://www.galacticempire.se/index.php?page=swtor

Here is the settings for the block "Huvudmeny" which is displayed properly on the front page but not in any of the Pages.

It was on Everyone before but now I tested with having everything on A on Custom, but no difference.

Ok, sorry about the 'page/s' misunderstanding.

Your settings look ok - I couldn't see any reason why it shouldn't display ...except for one I just noticed.

In Simple Portal Admin menu > Configuration > Block Settings

Quote
Information | General Settings | * Block Settings | Article Settings

You will see one setting for Display Blocks in Forum

If you set this OFF it will not show in pages either. Look at that and if no check in the box - check it and save - should then display on the other pages.
I think it is a bit odd SP behavior as it considers portal pages the same as the forum pages... everything the same except the main front portal page. I wouldn't call it a bug but is not a clear way of doing it.

If this works, you can use the Advanced Options in Display Options   to switch blocks on and off in other places. This is in the block setup page.

If it works please mark this topic solved for us  :nervous-happy:
I cant think of another reason  ...

This was the issue and I thank you a thousand times, I apologize for missing this one. I am also unsure why it counts Pages and forum sections as the same but this worked, just ticked every box underneath to hide blocks everywhere on the forum and then I can work with the rest from their respective Pages settings.
Thanks again and marked as solved.
