when a member gets obnoxious i don't want to run all over the place to deal with the issue... i just want to click the off button.

All you do is add them to a secondary group called "banned from shoutbox" that has the permission denied. Takes a couple clicks.

I seen that, however as stated in my previous post i am not looking for a round about way to do this that involves jumping all over the place... i am simply asking if any one is able to make it so that admin can just click on a ban icon "within" the shoutbox or use bbcode "within" the shoutbox to shut down a user if needed.
I always search first and ask later.

On a side note, telling someone to search before posting is never a good comment to throw out there like that... it could prevent users from posting at all, in fear of getting in trouble for it. Just my opinion, not trying to be rude.

No offense meant - that you hadn't searched ... nobody gets in trouble for not searching though. It does seem recently that many people are just asking first - from my experience.

Shoutbox 'ban on-the-fly' could be a feature request for the next/future version. Though I guess it would be easier to make in the shoutbox setup as an add banned users function.

Me too. But I like your idea, despite it taking you back into SMF permissions and out again and into Shoutbox settings etc.

It can be achieved with this: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=11714.0 (denying permission to post messages in the shoutbox)
Or
Create another block visible just to shoutbox-banned users that tells them they are banned (you know, big red text "You have been banned from the shoutbox" thingy will do), while preventing such membergroup from seeing the shoutbox block (deny it).
Currently there isn't a "one-click" button to do it directly, but it doesn't take more than 10 seconds to change someone's membergroup like that ;)

Considering this thread is more than 4 years old, I hope you won't mind if I lock this :) If you need further assistance feel free to open a new one in the support section, though!
Have you tried SimplePortal Documentation before asking? ;)
