"Read More" on Portal Page
« on: May 30, 2012, 09:06:17 AM »
My  portal page is showing the whole article from the forum.

How do I cut off the amount of the article it displays?

If it's an article then admin > simple portal > configuration > article settings

and change maximum characters before cut off.

If you are using a SP blocks for the display, then look for similar character settings in the block's configuration.

You may also use the Simple Portal cutoff tag.
Put this anywhere you want in your article:
[cutoff]

And it will ONLY do its job in a block or in the articles portion of the portal page

Wish SMF had this tag for guests... looking for some kind of read more tag that would require login. A lot of the look but no read/hide topics from guests are obselete.
Everyone is a volunteer here so please try and make a small donation to keep the Simple Portal website running

Thanks,

This worked. The article cut-off switch did not.

Also, how do I get text to flow around an image in a post? Is there a mod for that?

And...

2. changing background color of posts -- alternating?

3. getting rid of the user info underneath log, and for that matter, everything underneath the log til the forum itself.

4. Is there a "comment" mode?

5. What affect does simple machine mods such as "advance recent posts" have on the portal ... portal page?

6. ...

There are mods to allow text flow around images. http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2305

General changes to the theme -- could be made in the theme's files.

Changes like alternating background color of posts in boardnews or articles -- would require a change in the appropriate files.  The articles template, or else portalblocks.php.

Advanced recent posts modifies the info center, and so should not affect the portal page -- but I have not given it a try.
