Help with blocks...
« on: December 22, 2012, 11:14:16 AM »
Hello, I am new to simpleportal.  Using version 2.3.5 on SMF 2.0.2.

I would like to know how to display a simple article or post in the central top block on the portal home page.  I want it to always be there as a welcome type message.  Very much like the central block shown here: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php

It's probably very easy to do, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet.  Would I use an article for the block, or is it just a regular post in the forum that is displayed  there?  Thanks for your help!

There are a few things you can do....

Create a BBCode Block...this would be just like making a post.
Create a HTML Block...You use HTML tags instead of BBCodes.

Articles are fine until you make another one and then it will displace the previous article.

If you want a good sound way to view your welcome message that you posted on the message board and what to see it on top in the middle of your HOME Button, you'll have to do a couple things.

Make the board you have the "Welcome" topic on a reply only board, meaning only admin can add a new topic.  Then go to SP Admin and make a "News Board" Block and attach the settings to the board you have setup for reply only.

There is probably a few more ways to do what you're looking for other than the three I mention,  I hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.
