zectorx,

  Hello & welcome to SimplePortal.
Are you new to using SMF software? Installing 3rd party modifications (ie. Simple Portal) is done via SMF's package manager. Please read the wiki regarding installing packages to work with your SMF forum software.
Instruction/wiki: ref. http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Package_manager

Also I would like to suggest upgrading your forum software to the current version SMF 2.0.3 as the version you are using is rather dated.  When/if upgrading please remember to back up your database in case the process somehow results in err.
ref. http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading

All questions regarding upgrading and/or using the package manager itself should be posted at simplemachines.org. Only issues with SimplePortal itself should be posted on this forum.

zectorx,

From the above previous statement it appears you are not familiar with how to install packages for your SMF forum. All 3rd party modification packages are installed via your forum's package manager. There is no need to decompress (unzip) the SimplePortal zip file manually as the package manager decompresses the archive automatically during the installation process.

Download the zip file to your computer: Click Here
.. log in to your forum as Admin, navigate to the package manager menu & opt download packages:

Admin -> Package Manager -> Download Packages -> Choose File

When you select Choose File you will need to navigate to the SimplePortal zip file that you downloaded to install it. After the process is complete, SimplePortal should be installed on your forum.
