Can't Uninstall

I tried to configure SP today and it wasn't on the admin menu anywhere. I thought if I uninstalled and then reinstall my problem might be resolved but the "package manager" recommended not to due to a huge list of errors (see attached). I didn't proceed due to some of the horror stories regarding forums being rendered useless and unable to access so here I am. Any ideas?

edit: Using SMF 2.0.4

DTroup,

Imo what has happened is that you previously has Simple Portal installed and somehow (possibly by accident) you deleted it from your packages list without actually uninstalling it. Then when attempting to reinstall it you get errors because it can't find its placement markers to parse the existing SMF code (because the previous installation changed that code).

My suggestion is to use the SMF large upgrade package (make sure you use the upgrade package and not the full install package!) which will render all your SMF files to default without affecting the database. After which you will have to install all your mods anew including Simple Portal.

Make sure to backup your database prior to using the SMF upgrade package (it may be unnecessary but do it to be on the safe side).

You are probably right but I don't recall deleting it. Turned it off somehow perhaps?

Just to be clear, a re install was never initiated. When attempting to uninstall via the "package manager", the multiple "test failed" errors occurred as noted in the previous attached pics highly recommending against proceeding. Thus the uninstall was aborted and a re install never attempted.

I'll ponder your suggestion for a couple of days in case something comes to mind. And my humble thanks for your help.

DTroup,

I misread your first post last time as I thought you were attempting to install it. What I suggested will still fix your issue as it replaces the existing smf files with defaults and renders all mods and smiley packs as uninstalled. After which you just install everything anew and your problem will be solved.

Ok, thank you sir! I guess my greatest concern now would be if my members remain intact after the "large upgrade package"?

Chen Zhen

DTroup,

Yes your users and posts stay intact.
